Chapter Six

This section of the site aims to provide the reader reflections as published in the text. Further reader reflections will be added to these pages as the website develops.

Introduction

This chapter aims to:

• Introduce the reader to cost information that can be used at the earliest stages of the design to develop the cost bracket
• Highlight the range of cost information and the statistical parameters that are used to assist in its interpretation
• Demonstrate how adjustments can be made to account for design risk
• Demonstrate how adjustments can be made for price risk
• Explain the basis for the various indices available to the construction economist

Chapter 6 Reader reflections

How may statistical deductive models be used to develop a cost bracket at feasibility stage? How do these models represent uncertainty within the data? Why must the construction economist select the correct index? What is the difference betweem the indicies available How has the market for construction influenced tender prices over the last years? When would we use local knowledge to override the locational index information given by the BCIS?
