Building Design Cost Management
Chapter Three - Fact Files
This section of the site provides the fact files given in the textbook itself. These factfiles are varying in number and length, so it was decided to place them on separate pages from the main chapter pages within the website
It is the view of the authors that, with the rapid advances in information technology, the need for generic information presentations, as is currently the case, will disappear, and be replaced by more dynamic information presentations for particular purposeds at specific times. Such approaches will necessitate effective information information organisation, provided by means of classifications such as that provided by Uniclass, coupled with a more resource-based approach to reflect, with greater accuracy, the process of construction. Chapter 11 discusses in more detail how such organisation might be achieved through the use of classification systems such as CPI and Uniclass and how more effective design cost design management can be brought about.
It is not the purpose of this book to discuss risk in any depth, except to stress the point that risk avoidance and transfer is at the heart of most procurement strategies, and their consideration is pivotal in arriving at a decision as to how to proceed to select a contractor. There are numerous references on the subject
